Balanced Body Pilates Instructor Trainingpeople

Balanced Body® has been the leader in innovating and expanding the Pilates market by providing the highest quality Pilates equipment to over 100 countries for more than 30 years. We continue this tradition with innovative Pilates Education through our worldwide network of master instructors.

• Our faculty represent the highest caliber of experienced, caring and passionate Pilates instructors from a wide variety of backgrounds. Their rich diversity of experience and perspectives allow us to offer courses appropriate for studio, fitness and post-rehabilitation environments.

• Our curriculum includes the traditional Pilates Mat, Reformer, Trapeze Table, Chair and Barrels repertoire as well as modifications and additional exercises designed to make teaching Pilate safe, effective and fun. Our curriculum is straightforward and consistent with the current Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) guidelines. Each module has a comprehensive manual and an optional DVD.

• Our program offers three levels of Pilates Instructor Education: Mat, Reformer and Comprehensive. Each level is offered in affordable modules so you can take your first course now and continue your training next week, next month or next year, whichever works best for you. Each module is designed to allow you to start teaching quickly and to continue learning as you progress.

• Our program, like those of other leaders in the Pilates industry, offers an assessment-based certificate of completion, not a “Pilates Certification”, based on the recommendations of the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA).

Program Details

Balanced Body® offers a full range of Pilates instructor training programs. Whether you are interested in teaching Mat classes, Reformer classes or Pilates personal training sessions on the Reformer, Trapeze Table, Chair and Barrels, we have the resources you need to succeed.

The Balanced Body Pilates instructor training program is designed to create thoughtful, creative and successful Pilates teachers. Our curriculum emphasizes the principles underlying each exercise. Our faculty members have a wide variety of Pilates backgrounds from classical to contemporary to fitness and bring their exceptional depth of experience to the training. Our manuals are considered to be some of the best in the industry and for more in depth study, we have produced an accompanying DVD for each Mat, Reformer and Apparatus module.

Our program at Evolve Integrative Wellness is designed in modules so you can take your first course now and continue your training next week, next month or next year. Evolve Integrative Wellness owner, Dawn-Marie Ickes, MPT, appreciates the demands of today’s fast paced and time deprived culture and has created a program which offers the flexibility of online support and distance learning as well as personal one on one and small group mentoring in order to provide an enriching and inspiring educational experience for individuals desiring in depth study and education in the Pilates Method.

Each module is self contained so you can take them as quickly or as slowly as your schedule and budget allow. In addition to our instructor certification program, we offer a number of additional modules to enhance the educational experience as well as advanced corrective workshops.

Reformer and Other Apparatus Final Exam and Certificate of Completion

Overview

Once instructors have completed all of the Reformer and/or Apparatus course work and hours, they must pass a practical exam demonstrating their teaching ability. Exams will be regularly scheduled in different areas of the world. If instructors are not able to test out due to geographical challenges, testing out by video can be arranged. If a student is completing both the Reformer and the Apparatus sequence, they will not need to test out separately on the Reformer and the Apparatus.

The final test out consists of:

Observation of a session with a client or an apparatus class. The specific requirements will be determined prior to the testing.

During the exam we will be observing and rating the instructor’s skills in the following areas:

•                  Correct set up and execution of the exercises

•                  Client safety

•                  Appropriate sequencing

•                  Appropriateness of the exercises to the client or class

•                  Understanding and application of the principles

•                  Cueing and the ability to communicate with your client or class

If the instructor does not pass on the first try, we will discuss what they need to focus on in order to pass and set up a timeline for completion.

Personal Sessions

Students can count any classes or Pilates personal training session they have already taken. Developing and committing to a personal Pilates practice is an essential part of becoming an effective and inspiring teacher.

Observation Hours

Observation hours include watching experienced instructors teach group classes of private sessions. Observation is a great way to understand verbal and manual cueing, program sequencing and to hone your teaching skills.

Student Teaching Hours

Teaching hours include any Pilates teaching either as an employee at a fitness center or Pilates Studio or for family and friends.  We recommend that you discuss you plan for your hours with your course instructor to ensure continuity and consistency.
